Tips for making sure your dog stays safe and comfortable on the trails.

Hiking with your furry companion in Acadia National Park is a paw-some experience! While it’s fun to take your pup on the trail, there are certain tips and tricks to make sure your pup stays safe and comfortable. Most importantly, remember that not all trails are dog friendly. Look into individual trails before heading out so you can plan accordingly. Make sure you bring water and snacks for breaks along the way, as well as doggy waste bags to keep the environment clean and safe. Finally, consider planning shorter hikes on hotter days; dogs have a harder time cooling off than us humans, and can become overheated easily. With these tips in mind, grab a leash and leash up for some wonderful outdoor exploration – Happy Trails!

Here were my top hikes we did with our dogs:

  1. Ocean Path Trail – You can get to see both Thunder Hole and Otter Point. It is a quick hike about two miles book about 1.5 – 3 hours max.
  2.  Schoodic Peninsula Trail – moderate hike due to the distance 7.5 miles, but not steep. Estimate 4-6 hours, you will be taking a lot of pictures.
  3. Bubbles Nubble Loop-This is a nice loop covering North and South Bubble.. The dogs loved it and it was not that busy. 1-3 hours.
  4. Jordan Pond Loop- AVOID AVOID AVOID- super crowded and just meh. This is only to let the pups get wet not for hiking.
  5. Jesup Path and Hemlock Path Loop- Just a nice walk in  the woods, which was great as I was recovering from an injury.
